Collective Ownership

A new kind of home.
Stable, affordable.
Controlled by residents.

Collective Ownership is an alternative to private ownership and landlordism. We remove homes from the speculative market to empower communities and create housing stability.

What is Collective Ownership?

A not-for-profit, scalable and resident-led tenure for a fair housing system.

We buy homes and place them under permanent resident control. Rents are affordable and properties can never be sold for private gain. Surplus is reinvested to bring more homes into collective ownership, rather than to enrich landlords. To make it happen, we raise ethical investment.

Collective Ownership goes beyond individual housing projects. We are creating an infrastructure that builds collective economic power to transform the market.

organised as housing co-ops, and as members of Collective Ownership.

The UK housing crisis isn’t simply a failure of supply or regulation, but a consequence of treating homes as financial assets, rather than places to build lives and communities.

The broken housing system...

The broken housing system today and how we're addressing it.

and how we're addressing it.

1.

Houses as assets to extract profit

Locking in their social purpose as homes

2.

Renters lack control, security and stability

Providing agency akin to home ownership

3.

Poorly maintained housing

Empowering residents to manage their own homes

4.

Speculation, people getting priced out

Basing rents on costs, insulated from the market

5.

Private ownership profiting a few

Common ownership to benefit all

Who we are

Residents and professionals working together to meet housing needs and aspirations.

We’re creating a different kind of housing. Not-for-profit, commonly-owned, governed by residents and professionals. Our aim is to make stable, affordable resident-controlled housing a mainstream option.
